If you want to know what to do and say in a job interview, this is the book for you. "When Can You Start?" by Paul Freiberger is a no-nonsense manual for anyone anxious having to fight for a job. The author first reminds the reader that he or she is in the spotlight during an interview and that diligent homework must be undertaken if the outcome is to be successful. The interviewee must be prepared to present motivation, competence and a pleasant personality, all while attempting to sell his or her job skills. You must research the company to which you want to apply and be prepared to explain why you will fit in and why you, among all other applicants, should move to the front of the consideration line.
When preparing to interview, you must not only be prepared for informal interview, you must also be ready to present to a panel of your potential peers and supervisors. The author shows the reader how to use the internet to develop questions and answers that will guide you through the interview, despite anxieties and insecurities. One of the most helpful sections deals with the situation in which a potential employer asks the interviewee to tell about his or her weaknesses. Another rough situation comes when there is a seeming stalemate and when the "interviewer blinks." Anyone the least bit shy about interviewing would do well to read this book from stem to stern, take notes, and then, read it again. It is a gem!
