The little girl loved her mom and dad but she thought it was better they were apart. She knew her mom had a heart of gold and her smile lit up the room but she also knew her mom was happier when she was not with her dad. He was the little girl's hero but she knew he was also happy when he was not with her mom. Though they were both wonderful people, they hadn't been wonderful to each other for a long time and their smiles and laughter were now cold stares and awkward silences. The only thing the little girl wanted was peace because she was always in the middle of their fights and arguments. She was always crying herself to sleep; she knew them being together was unhealthy for her and she thought it would be best if her dad and mom were apart.
What They Don't See: A Little Girl's Moment of Honesty by Ashley Paul is an insightful and thought-provoking book that is written from the point of view of a sad child. Fx and Color Studio makes the concept colorful and attractive to readers. I liked the exercises at the end where there are questions for parents to ask children and there are questions for children to ask their parents. It is a good way to reflect and see what needs to be repaired in their lives. It is a very uncomfortable and sensitive topic but the author has handled it deftly. This book also helps both parents and children to look at their family situation and deal with it accordingly so that everyone at home is happy.
