Ex-Metropolitan Police officer John Cannon and his partner Liz love the quiet lifestyle. But things change quickly when he finds unexpected trouble the moment he vaults a turnstile on an early morning run and becomes entangled in a discarded fishing-line. Attempting to reel in the now useless line before someone else can be caught up brings him face to face with something he didn’t really expect to see: the body of a young man who had recently been employed to do some contract construction work. However, something just doesn’t seem right about this particular young man.

The gruesome discovery is just the beginning of a mystery that leads John into a search for a missing young girl, some conflict with the local police, involvement with a national newspaper and then an ultra-dangerous international crime lord.

Steadily moving forward, the trail leads to a ruthless Portuguese businessman who owns a local Health Spa that isn’t exactly as it seems. Danger increases with every step as Cannon strives to solve the mystery and catch the criminals responsible.

A Watery Grave is a well-plotted, straight-forward mystery story. The author has put together an excellent cast of characters with the protagonist Cannon, his partner Liz, the old poacher and a not-so- subtle police inspector and of course, the bad guys as well. The dialogue was very good and the setting, with its cool dampness, was perfect for a mystery. Without bad language, sex, or excessive violence, the author has crafted a very good tale, one any mystery lover would truly enjoy.
