Wasting Time is the second book in the Physics, Lust and Greed series by Mike Murphey and a great treat for fans of science fiction and time travel. Altering the past has been a mission for time travelers, but failing to accomplish that mission leads to fallout in the Global Research Consortium, with most financial investors leaving. Marta Hamilton becomes the administrator of the time travel program and she has stayed with the program because her friends left a legacy she wanted to protect from the manipulative greed that killed them. It is a tale involving a murder plot, lust, and greed in proportions that threaten generations. It follows Marta as she steps beyond her comfort zone and develops a strong friendship with Sheila while having a steamy sexual experience with Marshall. Can she protect the past from the future?
Wasting Time is a story with powerful plot points and a unique approach to time travel. Mike Murphey weaves elements of intrigue, political conspiracy, and romance into a story that draws readers into fully drawn worlds. The characters are extraordinary and I enjoyed the way Marta is crafted; she is a strong-willed person who is guarded and struggles to avoid being sexually and emotionally involved with Marshall. This is an element that adds depth to the conflict. She has always been willing to risk everything intellectually and physically to achieve her goals, but not emotionally, and readers will marvel at how well the author develops this side of her. Wasting Time is bracing and cleverly plotted and the author writes with exquisite precision about fragility and adventure, greed and love; it is a spellbinding story with memorable characters and a plot that forces the reader to keep on turning the pages.
