This tale begins with a funeral. As the “mourning” stand around the open grave they discuss Simon, the deceased. The women wonder who slept with him and who would have married him. The Elder gives a unique and harsh eulogy, comparing Simon to Lucifer, the fallen angel.

Peter and Simon had been friends. Simon trusted Peter. It was a shock when the undertaker informed Peter that the coffin was empty. Someone had stolen the body. The burial clothes were neatly folded in the casket but there was no body.

Simon owned a brothel on one of the side streets of Midtown Manhattan. Jason and Saul waste no time assuming control of the profitable business and the beautiful young women.

The story continues with Peter remembering different scenes from his and Simon's past. Simon left Peter a letter making Peter the executor of his estate. The letter also tells Peter that he should suspect Simon was murdered. The letter leaves Peter with a great many unanswered questions.

"War With Pigeons" is an unusual look at the sacrifices a mother will make for her child. The writing style is passionate. This story has great depth. The pace is slow and steady. The writing is almost prose. I felt as though I was reading Tom Wolfe, John Steinbeck, or Ernest Hemingway. All of these authors managed to convey their passion in a quiet manner.

"War With Pigeons" is a story that will touch your heart. This book will stay with the reader long after the last page is read.
