Wanna Bet? is a work of fiction in the contemporary romance genre. It is aimed at older readers and was penned by Betsy Dudak. The book follows single parent Harper as she gambles with the happiness of herself and her children by making a wager with former addict Brody Reed after they share a kiss they shouldn’t have. Brody is putting his life back together, but with another man already in the picture offering the kindness and structure that she craves for her family, what route will this hard done by heroine choose in the end?
Wanna Bet? is a contemporary romance novel that follows the relationship between Harper and Brody with style and emotion throughout. One of the most enjoyable things about this book was the relationship that developed between the central pairing, which was quite unique. The relationship felt well developed, passionate, nuanced, and exciting at the same time. The characters individually were engaging and well-rounded, making it easy to root for and connect with them. The plot itself deals with some heavy themes but handles them with grace and understanding, and the moments of laugh-out-loud humor are a welcome break in the grittier scenes. Author Betsy Dudak is a master at creating dialogue that is full of emotion and humor, and that carries the story along well. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend Wanna Bet? to fans of contemporary romance novels that are full of humour and emotion, and those that are new to the genre and looking for a place to start.
