Wall Of Doom: The Princess Maura Tales by Abigail Keam is a fantasy romance that will take the reader on a journey to another world where magic and reality might not be so different. Although I am not a big fan of fantasy, novels like these make me reconsider. While the pace of the novel was kept steady, the characters and their story had me hooked. I didn’t ever consider slowing down or to stop reading altogether because I wanted to know what would happen to Maura and how she would survive the onslaught of attacks on herself and her people.
This is the story of Princess Maura, a young and proud princess who knows that duty means never giving up and giving way, even if it means that she has to leave her family and the only home she has ever known behind. When her people are threatened by Zoar and his evil wizard, Zedek, she is sent to the Dinii people who train her to become a fierce warrior. She was there to learn to become powerful, a force to be reckoned with, and she becomes all that. However, she was not expecting to fall in love with the Dinii Prince. So now she has a choice to make; save her people or save the man she loves. Which will she choose? Will her duty trump her own happiness?
I was not expecting this to be an emotional novel, but it become one after a certain point in the story. The conflict was pretty intense, the climax was a little surprising and, all in all, it was a very entertaining novel. Even though this is a fantasy novel, the story and the characters were believable, which made them even more enjoyable for me. I loved the strength in Maura and her determination to do the right thing, and I loved how she stood up for what she believed to be true. This is an exceptionally good novel, one that I will read again.
