In Waelgryre, Spencer Sekulin has written an epic fantasy novel that is brilliantly woven with action and adventure. Fox is an orphaned boy who knows no other life except the harsh life of a thief. Despite life's cruel nature, Fox is somewhat successful and blames his failures on his lack of aptitude. All seems fine in his world until unknown forces destroy his village. In his haste to escape, Fox runs into a notorious outlaw (unknown to him) who helps save his life. Together they escape, but soon find out that their adventure together has just started. The notorious outlaw, known as Blake Waelgryre, is wanted by everyone and just by being associated with him so is Fox. Together they strike out on an adventure in hopes of evading capture. Fox, only knowing how to steal, soon realizes that his skills are useless and in fact he is a hindrance. If not for Blake, Fox would not last very long in avoiding his captors. But is that really all? Is Fox just some street rat, with no home and only the skills of a thief? Or is there more to the story? Join Fox as he attempts to survive in a world unfamiliar to him and stop the unknown forces threatening to take away all that he holds dear.
Waelgryre: Book One of the Ærenfel Legacy is an easy read for those who love fantasy epics. It took me quite a while to read it, but I am glad that I did. The story starts off slowly but, as you progress, the author's quirky sense of humor has you laughing at the antics of his characters. His attention to detail has you enthralled in the action scenes and enjoying the world that he has created. The dialogue is smooth, with no confusion to readers at what is going and it matches the scenes. I enjoyed the book, and if you're looking for something new to read, pick up this book. It will leave you anxious for the next part in the series.
