Richard Daybell is the author of “Voodoo Love”, a book that is whimsical, bizarre, and weird and I didn’t want to put it down until I finished reading. It is the story of Paul and Huey and their wild adventure. They meet on a bench in Disneyworld. Paul is taking a break and Huey is a Disney Duck trying to take a cigarette break. Huey is chased by a chipmunk and returns shortly in street clothes as a very attractive girl. She has been fired for smoking while in costume, but she happily has kept the head of the duck. They form an unusual friendship and journey by train to Key West. We next find them on a sail boat ride which leads them to being stranded on a tropical island. Paul and Huey meet a cast of strange characters while being marooned for several days. The gracious host who allows them to stay as his houseguest is a man who considers himself a Voodoo priest. While stranded, Paul and Huey encounter many adventures that are both scary and funny.

The best way I can describe “Voodoo Love” is ‘Fantasy Island’ meets ‘Night of the Living Dead’ and ends with them sailing away on the ‘African Queen’. It is a very unusual book; I was not sure exactly where it was going or where it got, but I really enjoyed reading it. Richard Daybell has written a book that is a standout winner. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy humor, adventure and fantasy all mixed together in a delightful blend.
