Victoria worried about a lot of things, she worried about playing in the park, trying new food, her hands sweating, her tummy hurting, and her knees shaking. Baxter, her favorite teddy, knew how to help her. He told Victoria every time he got worried he thought of his special word. He told her to take a big brave breath in through her nose and think, and then blow the big brave breath out from her mouth and think. He told her the big brave breath made his worries look smaller and smaller. Victoria practiced it every day, at school, in the car, and in the bathtub. When she was scared to jump into the pool she remembered Baxter's words and took a big brave breath. She saw her worries getting smaller and smaller and she jumped into the pool.
Victoria and the Big, Brave Breath by Andrea Vaughan is an adorable story that will help children conquer their fears in a holistic way. Ryan Feltman gives clarity to the concept with his colorful and bright illustrations that will guide children on how to do breathing properly. The message to adults at the end of the book will help parents, tutors, and other care-givers to advise children to use the big brave breath so that their worries look much smaller and they can create a peaceful and calm world. It is a good book to use for storytelling and read-aloud sessions in classrooms and homes to help children deal with fears if they have any.
