Vestige: Fathers and Daughters is the sixth installment of Ellen C. Maze's The Rabbit Saga. Sixteen years after the events of 11/13, Elder Rakum Canaan leads a fulfilling life raising his teenage daughters, Kelly Meade and Shebah, alongside his loving wife, Chloe. But the unexpected arrival of an old acquaintance fills it with temptations that he finds hard to resist. In the meantime, a former ZK of an abusive Rakum is on a revenge killing spree that threatens everyone while a Rakum named Miah seeks to rebuild The Keeping. As Canaan and his friends intensify their hunt for the killer, Kelly Meade and Shebah find themselves trapped in the wrong hands. Canaan must now give his all to rescue his daughters. But a traitor in their midst complicates things further.

If you loved books written by Anne Rice or movies such as Interview With the Vampire, you should probably check out The Rabbit Saga. Vestige: Fathers and Daughters continues Ellen C. Maze's tale of the powerful and seductive Rakum who unwittingly have to come to terms with their mortal life. Ellen C. Maze writes in a fluid and easily accessible style that instantly transports you amongst the Rakum. Each character feels unique with a distinct personality trait. I enjoyed every single one of them although Canaan, Kelly Meade, Shebah, and Beryl were my personal favorites of the bunch. Overall, I enjoyed Vestige: Fathers and Daughters. I will highly recommend lovers of the vampire genre to pick up The Rabbit Saga.

Vestige: Fathers and Daughters is a work of fiction in the fantasy genre, and serves as the latest installment in The Rabbit Saga. It is suitable for the general reading audience and was penned by author Ellen C. Maze. The book continues the story of half-sisters Kelly and Shebah as well as the last Rakum Canaan. The sisters find themselves in the unusual position of having supernatural powers that they must hide from being conceived by fully Rakum fathers. Canaan himself must face his past as temptation to the old ways crosses his path and familiar dangers loom over his daughters.

It takes a lot of thought and skill from an author to keep a saga interesting and engaging for readers after five installments. The careful pacing across entire books to keep readers excited for the next one, whilst making sure each installment can be enjoyed on its own, is not a talent easily mastered. However, author Ellen C. Maze once again shows that she has what it takes to keep The Rabbit Saga a must-read for her audience. The core characters are very well realized, and the journeys that they go on throughout the story are full of twists and turns that are sure to keep readers excited to read the next chapter. Vestige: Fathers and Daughters should be particularly praised for its themes of legacy from both ends of the scale; with Kelly and Shebah exploring the legacy they have been left and Canaan forced to confront the legacy he has created. It’s an exciting theme and one excellently considered and delivered.

Vestige: Fathers and Daughters by Ellen C. Maze is the sixth entry in The Rabbit Saga, an engaging meld of science fiction and fantasy with strong Christian themes. The Rakum, a race of powerful vampires, has gone extinct, but there are still remnants even if they have lost their birthright as vampires. Kelly Meade and Shebah Canaan are half-sisters who were conceived before the last Rakum became mortal. But the half-sisters, teenage girls, know some truths about their origins and their supernatural abilities. When enemies start getting in the way of Canaan’s life, he knows he must do something. It gets even more complicated when a beguiling man from his past returns. How far will Canaan go to protect his daughters and does he have what it takes to rid the world of the Rakum entirely? Answers to this question transform the story into a thrilling adventure for fans of vampire stories and well-written fantasies.

This is a mesmerizing tale told in crystalline prose and features characters readers will adore. The two daughters of Canaan are an intriguing pair and watching them live through their teenage years, exploring and struggling with their supernatural abilities is interesting. The world the author creates is eerily familiar and the humanity of the characters, even that of the Rakum who have lived for more than three hundred years, is skillfully written. The relationship between Chloe and Canaan feels real and endearing and the author uses it to deepen character. Ellen C. Maze has a strong gift for elegant writing and she is one of those authors who use words with forensic clarity, wasting none, and writing dialogues that are both revealing of character depth and move the plot forward. Vestige: Fathers and Daughters is cleverly plotted, a fast-paced fantasy tale with memorable characters that explores themes of family, life, God, and death. It is a delightful reading experience for fans of vampire tales with unexpected twists, unforgettable characters, and flawless world-building.
