I live in Grimsby, Lincolnshire and write mostly in my front room. I've written stories for as long as I can remember, and still have some from when I was at school!
I have an eleven year old son, who always hears the first draft and gives an 'honest' kids' opinion - sometimes meaning sections have to be completely 'scribbled out' and re-written! On top of that, we are a large family, with tons of nieces and nephews. Christmas is a party!
The first book I ever read was when I was four about a sheep dog rescuing a lamb. I still have that very tattered book, and even get it out every so often to flick through it!
I love climbing in Derbyshire and high on my most favourite place in the world is Edale. There is a picture of me on my website, (www.tracytodd.co.uk) showing our last visit this summer. I am standing on an old, wooden bridge, under which is a crystal clear stream, cascading down from waterfalls in the peaks.
Something known only to a chosen few is that I once sneaked up to the top of the highest pyramid in Giza, Egypt, and watched the sun set over the desert.

Unscanned by Tracy Todd is the story of a brave 11-year-old boy who ventures into the streets of post-apocalyptic England to collect things his community needs to survive. When he takes pity on an old friend from school and takes her with him, he breaks two cardinal rules: stay invisible and don’t get distracted. Caught and sold to a children’s workhouse, he struggles against draconian rules and evil punishments in a cruel regime. He must escape if he is to survive, but what about 9-year-old Elliot who teaches him the ropes? Alex, the kitchen assistant who has access to food? And Sid, the laundryman’s slave? To succeed, Alex will need help, but can he trust them? Moreover, how will he get them out of the fortress-like prison?
Unscanned by Tracy Todd is an entertaining children’s sci-fi adventure. Adam’s well-crafted character takes you into a very real, frightening world, reminiscent of 19th century slavery and workhouses. Tracy does a brilliant job of taking you right there with him and I was rooting for his success. Adam comes across as brave, caring and resourceful. In his dilemma, Tracy Todd creates plenty of tension and conflict as Adam has to choose between the promises he has made to his own people, the Downers, and helping the other children he meets. In places the story is bogged down by a little too much detail, but continue reading and you will be rewarded with a great story. Maybe we can join Adam on further adventures.
