In book two of the Season of Redemption Series the Civil War has come to an end, and Sarah McCabe is ready to leave the small town she lives in. Jericho Junction, Missouri just does not have much to offer to a young lady who dreams to become a music teacher. The youngest child in a strong Christian family where her father is a pastor, she is ready to spread her wings and head for the big city for there is more to life to offer. With an offer as a music teacher in Chicago she leaves her home only to find the position has already been filled. With the promise of a job come fall, she does not want to return home as a failure, so she secures a job as a governess for the summer in Milwaukee for a widower with four children. When Captain Brian Sinclair and his accountant Richard Narvis both start having romantic feelings for Sarah, which one will she choose or will she leave in the fall and return to the teaching position that was offered. The Captain can provide her with all the niceties that she has longed for but is not a Christian. Richard is a Christian but he would much rather be a farmer than sit in an office all day long but would show her love over the finer things in life. Who would win her heart and would the children whom she has become attached to play a part?
I enjoy reading historical fiction, and this book filled that description right from the beginning. The book has drama and humor throughout. While it has a Christian undertone it is not preachy. I like the fact that from the beginning everyone in the book is not perfect. They have faults, which make them seem more real and help the characters to come alive on the pages. Once I started reading it was hard to put the book down. If you are looking for a good clean romance without all the drama and a sweet afternoon read then you will want to read Uncertain Heart. I have not read the first book in the series, but I feel this book can be read as a standalone. Recommended for all ages.
