Tyrone the Terrible: The Chameleon Who Decided He Was an Alligator by Jan Lis is an educational picture book for young children. Tyrone is a tiny chameleon who is not particularly muscular but just wants to fit in. No matter how hard he tries to be like the others, he simply can't do it. One day whilst talking out loud, Tyrone is approached by a grey squirrel above him in a tree. The squirrel offers to help Tyrone become bigger and stronger. He trains him day after day until Tyrone is finally ready to reveal his new self to the world, but most importantly, the animals he wishes to make friends with. Tyrone shows off his new muscles and big ego, but he doesn't get the reaction he was looking for. Instead, it backfires on him and he soon learns an important lesson about life. Can you guess what Tyrone learned?
Tyrone the Terrible was a joy to read. It is a book children are going to learn a lot from, whilst also being entertained. It is the perfect book for children who doubt themselves because of how they look, or something they aren't good at. It will teach them to love and accept themselves and never to change who they are as a person. Everyone is different, and that's what makes life great. I adored the way that the author chose to tell her story through animals as this will attract the young reader's attention and keep it throughout. I loved every word that Jan Lis has written and I hope to see more soon. Keep up the great work and stay creative.
