Twisted Silver Spoons by Karen M. Wicks is a mind-boggling psychological thriller about breaking free from toxic bonds. George Leibnitz was born with expectations, and those expectations only got higher as he grew older. He wanted to focus on what he wanted, but he was never expected to do that. He was going to take over the family business, and that was it. He almost accepted his fate, but he found a ray of hope when he met the charismatic M. She was everything he wanted, but she turned out to be everything George needed to survive. Suddenly, George wanted things that he knew he should never want. Freedom was just around the corner; it was just a smidge away from him. All George had to do was reach for it. However, when secrets are revealed, and danger comes knocking on his door, George will need to make a decision that he might not be ready to make.
Twisted Silver Spoons is a phenomenal story of resistance and the coming-of-age of a man who was never given many choices. In the beginning, I could not help but feel sorry for George. He was given very few opportunities to be himself and be happy with what he wanted to do. His situation was incredibly depressing, but that changed when he met M. That relationship was a breath of fresh air for the reader as well as for George. M was fiercely independent and an advocate of fighting for happiness. The moment George let M in, he was exponentially more confident. His growth was incredible after that. Karen M. Wicks showcased human flaws so well. None of her characters were perfect; they were delightfully human and lived a life that any one of them would live. I loved the pace of the narrative and how descriptive it became when the author talked about family and emotions. It was a captivating journey that I would love to revisit.
