One of the things I enjoyed about this epic fantasy is the way the author writes about magic. Magical powers are called Aspects and not everyone is gifted with them. The protagonist loves someone who is not born with magic and who has his own gifts, even if he burns with the desire to confront the powerful villain. The villain is strong, and by creating one of that magnitude, C.K. Donnelly puts the heroine on a daring path, with a desire to reach her full stature. She has to mature faster than normal and face challenges that might be beyond her strength. The conflict grows stronger as the story develops and there are surprises in both the characters and the plot; one is not sure where the story leads and what will become of the characters. The characters are rock-solid and multidimensional and the author’s handling of internal conflict is impeccable. This is exemplified in the expert use of streams of consciousness and internal dialogues. Trine Fallacy: The Kinderra Saga is a spellbinding narrative with twists and turns. One moment the reader is rooting for a character and the next moment they are furious at them. Overall, it is balanced, deft, and utterly satisfying.

The characters are genuinely flawed and believable, and the plot is unpredictable and gripping. Trine Fallacy transports readers into a magical world of encroaching darkness with a heroine desperate to bring light to her people.

In the world the author has created, there are forces of light and darkness, of good and evil, and it is interesting how they can co-exist in a person. The characters are multidimensional and sophisticated in an elaborate kind of way. Apart from the lead characters, readers will enjoy the parts played by the beloved of the heroine, Teague Beltran, and Morgan. There are twists that readers won’t see coming, like Mirana discovering the power from Without by unwittingly claiming the Aspects of Bartus. The narrative is filled with action and readers will love watching the protagonist grow through moments of uncertainty to strength and certitude. But an explosive twist comes from her relationship with her mentor, Tetric. Trine Fallacy is cunningly plotted and the characters leap off the pages majestically and with authenticity. The world the author has created is filled with magic and it will absorb fans of fantasy.
