Author Biography

For years, Dr. Pirnot practiced Clinical Psychology, with specialties in women's and children's issues. She worked in the Juvenile Justice system, in schools and in private practice. Following retirement, Dr. Pirnot began to write about her experiences with the children she had met. She takes bits and pieces of the child's experiences and personalities and merges them into the stories she writes.

All of Dr. Pirnot's books are family-friendly stories which place characters in difficult situations in which they can learn and grow by solving problems and taking appropriate risks. The author gets additional inspiration for her current books from interactions with her grandchildren. Traveling With Grandma is an example of this and, for the most part, all of the stories about the children's antics happened in reality.

Katie Dude liked to talk to her grandma because she could understand Grandma better than she could understand her parents and other adults. Even though her grandma had trouble falling around, she still told fun and interesting stories to Katie. In her book Traveling with Grandma, Dr. Karen Hutchins Pirnot takes readers on these awesome journeys as Grandma teaches Katie some interesting facts about American and family history, grammar, vocabulary, manners, and other great facts from the time travel machine made by Katie’s granddad. Come and travel with Grandma and Katie and you will find lots of fun and excitement. But tread carefully, because Grandma's own children want to make sure she is safe and secure as she is growing older.

What a fun and interesting story for kids to read and a really neat way to teach children about facts they need to learn for school. Grandma makes learning enjoyable in the way she uses the time travel machine. This will keep kids interested enough to finish reading the book. The book is pretty thick, so it is more for older kids, but it would be a wonderful book to read to your younger children over a period of time. Like reading a chapter or two each night. You really can’t go wrong with this amazing book. I just love it myself, so adults will get a lot of enjoyment out of Grandma’s travel stories as well. I really encourage you to pick up a copy of Traveling with Grandma for your child. Ms. Pirnot has other wonderful children’s books for all ages you should check out too.
