Transcending Glory by Dr. Dennis J. Givens is quite an interesting exposition exhorting the Christian church of today to get ready for a mighty movement whereby God will use His church to reap an abundant harvest of latter day souls. Dr. Givens has a very lively and convincing style of writing that has the feel of an intimate conversation between friends. The title of this book is extremely apt; if I were asked to describe the book in two words, “Transcending Glory” would be those two words. Dr. Givens first defines that phrase as he uses it within the book, and then proceeds to delve into many different situational aspects of God’s transcending glory. He supports his statements with biblical passages, bringing to bear his educational acumen as well as his personal relationship with the God of the universe.
Transcending Glory was hard to stop reading at any point before the end. I don’t know how many times I thought to myself, “I’ll finish this chapter, then go do …,” only to find myself reading another chapter, then yet another, and so on. I was also intrigued by several personal stories he related that pertained to the subject of the chapter(s) they appeared in. He has certainly led a blessed life! Transcending Glory is a book which transcends denominations. Some denominations may find it too “charismatic,” while others may find it not “charismatic” enough. Regardless, Dr. Givens’ focus is on unity within the global Christian Church, in order to facilitate the work of the Holy Spirit in these end times. This is a book that will make you think, if nothing else. Hopefully, it will also inspire in you a greater desire to walk closely with our God.
