Vickie Johnstone brings us a supernatural crime mystery in Tirips Shade – Ghost Detective: Book 1. The year is 1864. Victorian London is dark and dangerous. For Detective Tirips Shade of Scotland Yard, this is the end, or perhaps the beginning. Shot in the back, Tirips Shade is now dead. The only one who can see him is his friend and partner, Harold Walker. Together, they investigate his murder. Just before his death, he was approached by Sarah Ann Bartley to look into the murders of butchered prostitutes. That means a serial killer is on the loose. Can Tirips use his ghostly detective skills to find the killers, and what dangers lurk elsewhere?
Vicky Johnstone has created a dark and interesting world. Many of us love a good mystery and this book will not disappoint. She has invented a whole new set of rules for a world beyond. I loved the descriptive scenes and the focus on the senses. The characters are bold and colorful and the dialogue is perfect. Gripping from the very start due to the author setting the stage perfectly, Vicky takes you by the hand and leads you on a mysterious adventure. Given just enough clues throughout, I was left guessing until the very end. I gladly recommend this book to anyone who loves a solid mystery set in Victorian London. Due to the violence, younger readers should tread carefully. It is easily a story to completely be immersed in. I look forward to the next book and mystery of Tirips Shade – Ghost Detective.
