Time Story is a work of fiction in the science fiction and time travel adventure subgenres. It is intended for the young adult reading audience but can be enjoyed just as much by adults. Penned by W.W. Marplot, in this fascinating, thought-provoking, and thrilling adventure, we find ourselves following the exploits of a pair of brothers, Plunkett and Woby, who find an incredible invention from their genius older brother, Applemon. Happening upon a belt that lets them travel through time, the brothers try to garner wealth and fame, but the complications arising from their meddling bring them into a humorous state of chaos, yet it is one which may have a very dangerous conclusion indeed.
W.W. Marplot has a fantastic sense for the whimsical side of science fiction and pitches it perfectly in this treat of a novel that is reminiscent of a modern Douglas Adams kind of satire. I enjoyed the way the story is laid out. The clear scenes and a strong authorial voice make the writer a part of the story, commenting on the actions of the hapless brothers even as they are described, and with such a cinematic level of scene-play that it almost feels like we’re experiencing a narrated film. This fly-on-the-wall style lends itself to the dry humor of the work and the surreal quality that is well balanced to never be out of control. This lined up surprisingly well with the principles of Buddhism underpinning some of the major story concepts. Overall, these multi-layered influences make Time Story a truly unique and highly recommended read for science fiction fans everywhere.
