Thrive or Survive: It's Our Choice by Pat Harris is a book with a mission. It encourages humans to do the “right” thing so that we leave a better world for our children and grandchildren. The mission is noble. Pat Harris has obviously done a lot of research prior to writing Thrive or Survive as there are plenty of facts, excerpts from reports, and website links throughout the book to support the arguments. It is a really well-researched book. It is also a well-formatted book, with the important messages appearing on their own in italics. I particularly like the quotations throughout the book as they are nuggets of wisdom.
Who doesn’t like to create a better world for their children and grandchildren? But why is it so difficult to get there? Pat Harris endeavors to solve this conundrum by exploring the breadth and depth of the problem. In Thrive or Survive, he patiently explains the problems in the world, especially in the U.S., in the chapters “It’s Their Future”, and “Our World”, and the projected problems in “Their World”. Pat Harris then discusses human nature, culture, health, environment, animals, ethics/morality, economics, and animal industry in relation to the solution, which is a change in lifestyle. Yes, it’s that simple. If humans make a change in their lifestyles, many of the problems in our world will disappear. Wow, what a revelation! This is why Thrive or Survive is a must-read for those who are interested in creating a better world for their children and grandchildren.
