When Mama Warbler's eggs start to hatch, most of them reveal adorable warbler chicks. But one egg surprises everyone by hatching a cunning cuckoo chick instead. This tricky little bird tries to convince Timid Chick, the last warbler egg remaining, that the world outside is a scary place. With clever tricks, the cuckoo whisks Timid Chick away from hatching, making sure he gobbles up all the food that Mama Warbler brings. The story reaches a turning point when the cuckoo cruelly pushes Timid Chick out of the nest. What unfolds next teaches readers important lessons about bravery, the value of honesty, and how we can find strength with the help of those who love and care for us. It's a warm tale that inspires courage and resilience in a fun and engaging way.
I had such a great time reading This Egg Won't Hatch by Lois Wickstrom. The characters are really well developed—Mama Warbler is all about loving care, while Timid Chick represents the bravery and vulnerability that kids feel when facing new challenges.
