Wow! Just, wow! That's exactly what I thought when I finished reading the new book, Thecla, written by debut author DM Mooney. This story line grabbed me from the very first words and kept me obsessively reading all the way through to the very end. Following the story of the young protagonist, Thecla, after she has lost her parents, survived the terrible earthquake that nearly destroyed the continent, and is now on her own in the Wastelands, this story is like few others in the genre of dystopian fiction, and is absolutely worth the read. Thecla, as a young woman, has become a fierce warrior and has come to live in Carpathia, in what is supposed to be a pious and fair community. What she finds there is anything but, and she realizes that everything she faced before is nothing in light of this new place. Will Thecla survive with her morals intact? You'll need to read the book to find out.

I so enjoyed Thecla. Author DM Mooney has done an absolutely fantastic job in creating characters, especially Thecla, that readers will connect with, relate to, and truly come to care about. If that isn't a hallmark of a great author, I'm not sure what is. The descriptions of the wasted surroundings are simply second to none. This book is exciting, adventurous, and full of thrills. I highly recommend it to any reader who enjoys dystopian fiction, or who is looking for a great read of fiction in general. I certainly hope to see more work from the obviously talented author, DM Mooney, in the very near future. I, for one, will be in line to read it!
