The Whistle Blower by Robin Merrill is the first book in the Wing and a Prayer Mystery series. Sandra is a devoted wife and mother of three that spends her days being the best at both jobs. She's thrown into her very own murder mystery after a referee dies at her son's soccer game and an angel named Bob sets her on the path to investigate the murder. Suddenly, she's sticking her nose where it doesn't belong and having to learn on the fly about the rules of soccer when she goes undercover as a referee. To top it off, her mom instincts are put to the test after she learns her son is being bullied. She's at the top of her game in a whole new field and maybe with her newfound life shake-up, she'll discover a new calling.
The story is a can't-miss cozy that is completely original with a never-before-seen plot and a charm that comes to life on the page to make The Whistle Blower such a delightful and endearing read. At the focal point of the plot is our sleuth who spends her days as a soccer mom, devoted wife, and churchgoer. Robin Merrill brings to life a zany and quirky mystery that is entirely original and creative which makes for a fun and humorous treat. The tone is lighthearted with a quirkiness that stems primarily from the dynamic between Bob and Sandra. Even the mystery itself has zany elements such as going undercover as a soccer referee, talking to someone that no one else can see, and managing her home life by sleuthing around. The subplot that pairs with her murder investigation focuses on her role as a mom when she learns that her son is being bullied, which shines a light on a serious topic and uses the son as a voice.
