The Very End of Things by author Noel Fordham is a novel that intertwines the stories of several characters and events, from the disappearance of Patience Sweetlove, the latest victim of the “Albion Snatcher,” to the psychotic policeman, the washed-up writer, or the story of the secret medical treatment that only caters to the rich and famous. The events of the novel are set in London, a very different London than we have today, a London of the death penalty, greed and dysfunctional passions.
Noel Fordham’s book resemblances a cult film. It has all the right characters to get you interested, but it does not follow the lines of standard storytelling and plot twists that we see in most books. In fact, it seems that The Very End of Things is more like a script for our imaginations to follow, the writing style making it very easy for the story and plot twists to be visualized by readers and be absorbed into our personal worlds. The ending of The Very End of Things leaves you begging for more as the emotions take over and the words connect readers to Noel Fordham’s world of passion and atonement.
The mysterious stories of the novel and the complexity of its characters make The Very End of Things an extraordinary read for everyone. No matter what literary genre you like, there is something in this book for you. From catchy character names, believable yet amazing plot twists to a courageous and realistic writing style, Noel Fordham’s novel manages to make the most of everything. And while other books have introduced you to these types of characters before, the faded pop starlet, the washed-up writer or the psychotic policeman, The Very End of Things portrays them in a way that will make you feel as if you are the first person in the world to know about them.
