Over the years, I was encouraged to write a book. I attempted countless times, but to no avail. The day I met my friend was the day that I sensed an internal shift within me. A certain awareness or intuition, if you will, gave rise to specific scenes, ideas, and words. Ironically, soon after my unexpected connection with L'mere, he posed a question to me: "Have you ever seen a fig tree bloom?" He proceeded to tell me about the idea of the blossomless fig tree and his wish to write a book surrounding it. Intuitively, I knew that I was meant to co-write this book with him, but it seemed impossible because I was not an author. Unbeknownst to me, there was a novel eagerly waiting to be poured out of me onto blank pages. Hence, The Unseen Blossom was born between us. I am an Afghan-American born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and I came to the USA as a political refugee in 1981. I am lucky to be from an intellectual family of politicians, diplomats, writers, professors, business owners, physicians, travel enthusiasts, homemakers, advocates, and peacemakers. I am a new author. Previously, I have only written freeform poems and writings. It is somewhat difficult to explain, but the blissful spirit behind this story is L'mere's which, surprisingly, created an immediate soul connection between us.

The tale of The Unseen Blossom starts with the serendipitous friendship formed between co-authors L’mere Younossi and Zlaikha Y. Samad, and without their friendship The Unseen Blossom may have stayed unseen. The story begins during a hot day in Kabul with Zuli resting beneath the shade of a fig tree. She is suddenly pulled away into the fig tree’s trunk. There she meets Lamar, a young and enthusiastic man on a mission to discover the legendary fig blossom. The fig blossom is a mystical flower that many men have sought, but it has never been found. Lamar tells Zuli that she is the chosen one and together they will find the fig blossom and, with it, they will be able to heal the grief and sadness in the hearts of people in their nation.
The Unseen Blossom is a book I truly believe people of any age will be able to resonate with. It is reminiscent of classic tales of adventure like The Wizard of Oz, Treasure Island, and Homer’s Odyssey. Younossi and Samad do a marvelous job at drawing parallels between the reality we live in and the quaint world they’ve created. The themes explored in The Unseen Blossom are that of morality, innocence, love, and the exploration of the desire for peace. Younossi and Samad have created a beautiful and poetic novel that anyone can read effortlessly. It is important to note that a portion of the proceeds The Unseen Blossom makes will be donated to help children living in war-torn and impoverished places.
