In The Truth That Hides by A.J. Schmitz, Jack doesn't think of his job as spying. He's merely clicking away at a computer and rating the people he sees on their threat level to the organization. It's no big deal. But then he realizes the organization he works for may be more than what he once thought it was. The people he assesses are killed if they are too much of a threat to the government. Jack's actions are literally killing people. He takes a trip away to learn more and is faced with more questions than ever before. And there's something else going on too. He suddenly feels as if someone is watching him...
If there's one word I could use to describe this novel, it would most definitely be the word "intriguing." Plots of a similar vein have already been done again and again, but author A.J. Schmitz seems to give it new life in his novel, The Truth That Hides. I want to know more about Jack and the organization he works for. And when, as a reader, you finally get the answers to your questions, you will feel your heart drop into your stomach. It's an intense read. But, at the same time, the author doesn't neglect skillful and artistic prose. There are some moments where the writing is clunky or needs a good polishing, but overall it is very well done. I think there is a very bright future ahead for Schmitz and I can't wait for the next installment in this sure to be epic series.
