The Tocks on the Clock by Jozef K. Richards tells the wonderful story of a little girl named Desi, Lola her dog, and Jack her cat who travel through the land of Tocks. Desi has a clock and each arm points to a place where one of twelve colorful Tocks lives. Each Tock is a different monster with its own character and does different things. The Phloon lives at Noon; The Grun lives at One; Lou lives at Two; The Slee lives at Three; The Gloor lives at Four; The Mive lives at Five; The Drix lives at Six; The Yeven lives at Seven; The Yate lives at Eight; The Sline lives at Nine; The Dren lives at Ten and Thevin lives at Eleven. Through rhymes and pictures, children learn about time in an interesting and fanciful way.
Children of all ages would love to own Tocks on a Clock, and so would I. The story is universal and applies to both current and future generations. The Tocks are beautifully designed and have their own personalities and characteristics. They perform tasks, complete their chores, and do strange things. The rhymes are creatively written, all relating to the clock and the Tocks. The attention to detail on the pictures is incredible; children could spend hours identifying all the small creatures, objects, and the surrounding landscape. There is also a map that shows the entire land of Tocks with a key to help identify the various places. A stunning book by Jozef K. Richards, highly recommended for children of all ages (and some adults) to learn how to tell time on a traditional clock.
