The Timber Stone by Dave Abare takes you on a journey through life. Joshua Traxon used to be famous but now all he wants is peace. Escaping LA, he heads for Vermont, where he plans to settle down with Pickle, his pug and best friend, and write his memoirs. He drinks to kill the pain of the past while Pickle does his best to keep him in the here and now. That routine was about to be upset though when he meets his neighbor Laurel and her little boy. Falling hard for her, Josh tries to reconcile himself with who he was and is but a tragic death from his past continues to haunt him. The only way to save himself is to go home, back to his childhood, where a forgotten relic may just be what he needs. Will Josh find peace? Can he put the past to bed and is Lauren just what he needs to start looking to the future?
The Timber Stone by Dave Abare was a wonderful story that will drag you down and boost you right back up again. It’s a tale you won’t forget and it will have you laughing and crying in equal measure. Plenty is going on as the main protagonist struggles to deal with both his past and current life and you’ll go on a journey that will have you re-evaluating your own choices in life. The characters are well-developed, real people you can connect with, empathize with, and, for some readers, truly relate to. Pickle is a major player in this book, a dog so full of life and vigor that you can’t help but want to pick him up and take him home with you. This story is written engagingly, with a friendly tone even when the chips are down, and that helps makes this an enjoyable read. This book really will grab you from the outset and it will tug at your heartstrings.
