It was a time of change for Caroline. Her family had moved from town to the country. Her best friend had turned in to a bully. Caroline’s cat, Casey, was very sick and dying. Aimee Jones was the closest neighbor, but all the other kids thought she was weird. Aimee was a loner and rarely spoke to anyone. Aimee showed Caroline her special place to get away. Caroline found friendship where she least expected it.

The Stone Beach is a unique story geared toward young adults. The plot tells the journey from childhood into the next phase of growing up. The Stone Beach has several important messages. It speaks of being true to whom you really are, dealing with bullies, and dealing with the loss of a loved one. The Spiritual message in this book was very good, although I wish it had gone a little further. The body is just a shell that holds our spirit; the spirit does not end with the death of the shell. Kim Chatel is an excellent writer. The Stone Beach would make a great book for high interest/low-skilled reading. It is short and easy-to-read and comprehend. This story will appeal to middle school-aged students.
