The Singular Adventures of Jefferson Ball by David Perlmutter is set in the year 3225 and follows Jefferson Ball, a humanized female dog who just happens to be the most powerful of them all. She likes to believe she is a femme fatale and, to an extent, she is but even the most powerful woman needs assurances and must come to terms with concepts that are just too much for her. However, don’t tell her that though. She takes readers on multiple adventures with her best friend Major Hamilton Pomeranian and together they have a pretty awesome time!
The Singular Adventures of Jefferson Ball by David Perlmutter is almost a dark satire, one that will have you smiling and laughing at one moment and then making you pause to think about it the next. Set in a time in the future, the pace of the novel is just as you would hope for it to be while the narration is smooth enough to keep you interested. I would characterize it as a perfect example of absurd literature that is telling some hard but accurate truths. I could tell that the author put in a lot of effort to make the story relatable and entertaining for the reader, but also gave it enough substance to keep the theme and the atmosphere going until the very end. Jeff is a strong character who is just a little lost. She wants guidance and she needs some support, but once she gets it, she is on a roll. I liked her and I very much liked Major Hamilton Pomeranian. He was her voice of reason and her chance at leading a normal life, especially considering her many responsibilities. All in all, it was a surprisingly wonderful novel to read. I enjoyed it a lot.
