Father’s Day is here again (the day Violet dreads the most since her father’s death four years before) and if that wasn’t bad enough, the daddy-daughter dance is happening at school. As the day goes on, Violet does her best to cope with the overwhelming angst that seems to be building and building with each passing minute. All she wants is to be alone with her grieving and despair. Finally, her feelings become too much to bear and she breaks. It’s clear to everyone around her, except Violet, that God is just who she needs to help her through all of this suffering but how can she trust what Mrs. Turner had said about time and patience? Could that be true? Suddenly, Violet remembers her dream she had about a shoe box and that turns everything around. Could such a seemingly small thing have an impact on her life? What is the purpose of the box and could it truly be a new beginning?

The Shoe Box by Robert M. Moores is a wonderfully-written, heartwarming story that had me wanting to give sweet, grieving Violet a big hug. What a tender age to be dealing with such a loss. I absolutely love the way the shoe box was introduced and the story afterward. Moores writes authentic, likable characters with plenty of valuable life lessons on everything from grief, God, faith, hope, healing, and gratitude. This really is a lovely story and I enjoyed reading it very much. Five stars.

Robert M. Moores has woven a wonderful tale that is heartwarming to read. It reassures our faith in God and teaches you some valuable lessons on life as a whole. I liked how the author has included many biblical tales full of wisdom in the pages, enlivening the character development of the protagonist. The Shoe Box is a reassurance of the good in mankind, reiterating the fact that there are many good people in our lives who are willing to help us during times of despair. They act as messengers of God while we come to terms with what has happened and work towards rebuilding what is to come. The plethora of emotions displayed in the plot is commendable as Moores has touched upon the intricacies present in human relations while also highlighting the greater relationship one shares with God.
