In The Seven Stones by Kimberly Ashley, Kadya and her brother Ruark are out hunting one day when they see smoke coming from their village. They soon realize that their family and friends have been attacked by a rival tribe called the Malevo. As they run and hide they find one of the lost Seven Stones of their ancestors. Drawn to another stone, a pink one that winks to them from the top of a mountain, they come across men with captured children and realize one of them is their little sister. They try to think of a plan to rescue Tawnee, but Kadya ends up being captured and dragged away. Ruark must find a way to save them all. Can the Seven Stones help him? And why is Pak (a son of their enemy) following Ruark but not attacking him?
The Seven Stones by Kimberly Ashley is an exciting adventure for teenagers. This is a story with heart. It focuses on what the stones represent, which is peace, abundance, empathy, healing, and courage. Is it possible to change if you’ve been raised with hate in your heart? This book thinks so. The story of Pak’s search for what is right is moving. I would have liked Tarek to pursue his love and I hope there is another book that will continue his story. The mountaintop scene was thrilling and, after that, the story flows to a smooth ending. The story has lovely characters and a heartfelt message that I think young readers aged 8—15 would really enjoy.
