The Power In Me by Meaghan Axel is a children’s educational book about anxiety. It is written from a child’s perspective who expresses how anxiety makes them feel. It states that anxiety can strike at any time, and it gives examples of what your child can do to combat that awful feeling. The Power In Me is extremely beneficial for children. Even as an adult who struggles with anxiety, I found this book to be comforting and helpful. It explains the different types of feelings anxiety can cause, and what to do in those situations. It also has a list of instructions for your child to follow during an anxiety attack.
The book is written in rhyme to help your child understand and remember the important information more easily. Anxiety is crippling as an adult so to imagine a child going through it is heart-breaking. With this book, I feel children can overcome or at least manage their struggles, and find calmness within them. The illustrations by Michelle Simpson play a big part in this book. Not only are you reading this to your child and hoping they are soaking up the highly useful information it is talking about, but the images show that anxiety is an adventure that your child can take on. I can’t recommend this book enough, it is perfectly written for the target audience, and by far one of the most educational books I have had the pleasure to read. I suggest The Power In Me by Meaghan Axel to young readers between the ages of 4-8.
