The Popcorn Colonel: The Mystery Behind the Movie Screen by Toni Anderson is a children’s adventure story. At 11 years old, William is getting very bored in Shuckersville and he desperately wants something exciting to happen. One morning he finds a metal box in his garden, tucked beneath a hedge. He opens it and so begins the adventure of a lifetime. Clues lead him to a room, hidden away in the theater behind the movie screen and, with the help of Marie, his best friend, and very carefully, they begin to uncover mysteries. Why is there a single cornstalk growing in his neighbor’s garden? Why is it surrounded by lanterns? And why is someone else desperate to get the box and what it contains? Marie and William work together to find out why the box was there in the first place, not aware of what they are facing, but soon all becomes clear. Can they solve the clues before time runs out?
The Popcorn Colonel: The Mystery Behind the Movie Screen by Toni Anderson is a fantastic adventure story that I guarantee kids are going to love. It’s a well-written story with a great plot that trots along at a steady pace and has plenty of action in it, more than enough to keep kids hooked all the way through. The characters have been developed very well, are thoroughly likable and easy to identify with. This is more than just a kids' story though; there are lessons to be learned on working together and getting help when needed to find a solution to a problem. Toni Anderson has a way with words too; the story is descriptive enough to let a reader live it while they read it, feeling as though they are a part of the story. Great book, recommended for kids everywhere!
