The Plot to Cool the Planet is a work of science fiction and climate fiction by author Sam Bleicher. Inspired by the current climate change crisis, the events of the novel take place in the near future where extreme and unexpected weather is causing massive damage to human life and food production. Those who are lucky enough to escape the weather disasters refuse to take in the climate refugees of other countries, and a prominent if unorthodox scientist has been murdered for suggesting her geoengineering techniques a little too forcefully. So when a secret mission to cool the planet gets quietly underway, things are sure to spiral out of control swiftly in a world gone mad.
Fans of political thrillers, military stories, and science fiction adventures are all sure to find something to satisfy them in this genre-spanning work which puts weather at the forefront of the plot. Author Sam Bleicher does an excellent job of taking a dicey topic in today’s society and showing the real concerns and dangers that we all face in the near future if left unchecked, which makes the work as important for the real world as it is entertaining and chilling in fiction. The descriptions of devastation and the threat of weather impact are ever-present and very well crafted, so well that you imagine you can hear the characters’ heartbeats quickening with the danger level. Overall, The Plot to Cool the Planet is a highly engaging and well-written work of climate fiction with an important moral hangover at its end.
