The Peace Keeper is the second book in The Soul Mender Trilogy by R.S. Dabney, a great meld of fantasy and adventure that is as well-crafted as it is engaging. It continues the story of Riley Dale who has finally come back to her world, but things aren’t the way she’d have liked them to be. She can’t completely forget the awful experiences she’s had lately in a parallel world. Her best friends are still in trouble and they need her help. Now, she must return to the world she dreaded so much and confront an evil that could destroy humanity. Will she accept the responsibility of Electa?
I was grabbed by the elegance of the evocative prose, but while the prose is excellent, what kept my focus were the strong plot points and the depth of character development. Riley is a well-imagined character and readers will enjoy the fact that she is not the typical heroine of this kind of story and they will be keen to see how she develops when it comes to her self-confidence and ability to react to situations in a detached manner. With a compelling cast of characters and a strong conflict, R.S. Dabney cunningly crafts a story that gets the reader hooked from the very first page. The author's skill at weaving back story into the narrative enriches the plot elements and makes the story even more captivating. The Peace Keeper is a powerful entry in this compelling trilogy and it is crafted with an intriguing denouement that makes readers want to know what will happen in the final book.
