The Mad Moon Mission is from the files of The Amazing Adventures of Skinny Finny and Super Spy Wobblebottom – a humorous children’s tale written by Andrew Guile. Skinnius and Tubbius Finny (aka. Skinny and Tubby) are ten-year-old twins. Whilst receiving an award from Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle (for helping rescue Santa’s workshop on a previous mission), the twins’ day goes askew when Her Majesty is kidnapped by the evil Dr. Buttscratcher, who takes her to his secret moon base. Super Spy Wobblebottom – now an MI6 agent after being promoted for his ‘assistive’ role in the rescue of Santa’s workshop – reluctantly joins forces with the twins, who not only have to rescue the Queen from Dr. Buttscratcher’s evil clutches, but also hope to bring their parents back home safely as well.
I have to admit, it was sheer curiosity which led me to grab this book from the shelf. I was dubious, at first, as to whether it would keep my interest piqued, but when I found myself laughing uncontrollably, I knew that I was onto a winner. Andrew Guile’s tale of twins, who find themselves in and out of trouble at the drop of a hat, is so beautifully written and quite imaginative. The Amazing Adventures of Skinny Finny and Super Spy Wobblebottom is a series that I most definitely want to sink my teeth into (pardon the pun), as their hilarious antics are actually carried into this sequel adventure from the first book – one which introduces all characters (good and evil) from scratch. With such visually hilarious antics happening to this unfortunate pair of youngsters, especially when in the presence of the Queen, I cannot wait for the next lot of laughs, and feel that both children and adults will also be left craving for more after the precarious ending to this well-told adventure and rescue mission. I recommend The Mad Moon Mission to all ages, especially at a time when the reader is in the mood for something non-cynical, unrelated to the political state of affairs of the world, and side-splittingly hilarious as this out-of-this-world tale of mischief and mayhem is. Well done, Andrew Guile, on a wonderfully addictive read.
