Aquila Hannigan lost her memory while at sea, and all she remembers is her name, age, and what she is - a siren. Everard, a kind fisherman, comes to her rescue. Everard goes far and beyond for Aquila, and she falls for him, but things are not as they appear because he seems to be hiding secrets from her. Finally, Aquila discovers his real motives. She is devastated, heartbroken, finding herself back at square one, and feeling like dying. King Raphael of Glacies comes to Aquila's assistance, and she realizes that perhaps there is still hope for life and love. Unfortunately, when she finally regains her full memory, Aquila feels undeserving of anyone's love and desires redemption above anything else. Will Aquila have the happy end she dearly craves? Find out in The Lost Siren by Hermione Lee.

The Lost Siren is a story about absolution and second chances in life. Aquila found herself in the same position twice, but she kept going. Even when she rediscovered her past, she still kept fighting. The writing is passionate and reflective of the character's zeal. King Raphael felt that he had lost everyone and had turned cold toward life. He eventually opened up his heart and loved unconditionally. I loved the way Hermione Lee acknowledged her main protagonists at the beginning of the book. This was wonderful and made me appreciate the work she put into creating these fascinating characters. Her visual descriptions of the islands of Glacies and the book cover are amazing. The cover was one of the reasons I read this book. A beautiful story.
