Readers are reunited with Gideon Crew in The Lost Island. This is the third book Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child have written in the Gideon Crew series. Gideon Crew is a brilliant scientist and a master thief. Gideon’s employer, Eli Glinn, has given him what is an almost impossible assignment: to steal a page from the Book of Kells, which is on display in New York City. As fans know, nothing is impossible for Gideon. Gideon and Amy set out on a quest to find the treasure that could save Gideon’s life, a lotus plant with purported special properties. Their search takes them to the Caribbean where they face one peril after another.
The action in Lost Island is bigger than life. It is impossible to review this book and not give away spoilers. What can a reviewer do other than give strong hints - there is a mythological creature from Homer’s Odyssey, the creature is the key to the lotus plant and the creature comes to care for Amy. Now isn’t that larger than life? The action certainly doesn’t stop there. Both Amy and Gideon are in constant danger. Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child have done it! The first two Gideon Crew books were good but Lost Island is superb. While most of the action is unbelievable, it is also commanding, astonishing and unpredictable. I was enthralled with this book from the first page to the last. My copy of The Lost Island is in audio format and the narrator is David W. Collins.
