John D. Pepe brings to life epic fantasy fiction in The Lone Wolf. When Remence discovers a large army of orcs gathering, he knows he has to return home to warn his father and the rest of the villagers about the probable attack. Because orc tribes are known to rather fight each other than work together, the village elders do not believe him. What follows is a race to safety and the Ironwood Gate. Living a life of thieving and running, cousins Caladin and Quinn find themselves in Ironwood with nowhere else to go and join a band of orc hunters to earn some coin. Having lost his home, Remence joins forces with the procuring cousins and they find themselves uncovering a plot of deception by those higher up to gain more power in Dacturn.
Author John D. Pepe has created a world in which brothers in arms come in an array of different forms. With the combination of orcs, goblins, and humans, there is sure to be well-choreographed fighting. You will not be disappointed in the way you will suddenly be absorbed in the descriptive words, racing to the end. Running through these pages is a strong theme of transition from boy to man and keeping to one's moral compass. The characters are likable with quirky dialogue that will put a smile on your face. The Lone Wolf is suitable for young adult readers with an abundance of action and methodical fighting. This book is filled to the brim with adventure and intrigue and will satisfy readers.
