Have you ever wanted to tell someone exactly what was on your mind? Edward Johnson does that very thing for you in his humorous but perfectly on-target book, The Little Book of Modern Fables for Adults. Comprised of 45 Original Fables on Life, Love and Work, this delightful collection of nugget delves into the human psyche and points precisely to those characteristics that either make or break us. Everyone can identify with an obnoxious boss, overbearing friend, sad-sack acquaintance or the person for whom nothing is ever good enough. Clever situations told in the classic style of a fable sum these people up and give them the comeuppance they so richly deserve. And what about the mice of the world who feel they are second rate? Johnson even has pick-me-ups for them so that there is certainly something for everyone.
Each chapter, some of which are barely a page long, focuses on flaws and foibles common across humanity. In most cases, the characters are people, but Johnson also uses animals to good effect to strengthen certain points. Although humor is the main emphasis of the tales, that does not diminish the intensity of the lesson being demonstrated. The Little Book of Modern Fables for Adults: 45 Original Fables on Life, Love and Work by Edward Johnson is the perfect coffee table book to attract attention and create a discussion. It would also be a terrific idea to leave one in a waiting room or on public transportation to spread the pointed and unique lessons contained within. It is certainly worth reading more than once for its insights, humor and timely observations on the human condition. Well done and thoroughly enjoyable. Should be required reading!
