The Little Blue Rocket Ship: A Story About Postpartum Depression by Jessica Wendi Abel is a children's picture book. Having a new baby in your household can be an exciting time, but not every day is as perfect as the rest for some of the family. In this book, children will hopefully learn from the young boy in the story as it shows him struggling with the changes that come with having a baby brother. The boy is overjoyed to have a little brother, but he's not so happy about how it has changed his mother. The boy and his mother used to play all the time and had all kinds of fun together. Now that his little brother has arrived, his mother is sad and sometimes gets angry. The boy reacts as any child would, becoming upset because he is confused and doesn't understand what is going on. Slowly but surely, and with the help of his dad, the boy begins to grasp what his mom is going through, and after allowing his mother time to heal, she starts to feel better within herself, and even builds the best little blue rocket ship ever!
The Little Blue Rocket Ship is a beautifully written story that pulled at my heartstrings from the very first page. The author has done an amazing job at showing what it can be like for older siblings when a new baby arrives in their life. Not everyone will experience postpartum depression, but many will, and children must be educated from a young age as it will help ease the transition. If you have recently had a baby and are experiencing postpartum depression like the mother in this story, then this book will provide your older child with the comfort and answers they are searching for and will be perfect for doing that. I loved every page and I recommend it to anyone and everyone, because it is educational and entertaining, which makes the perfect duo for a children's book. Congrats, Jessica Wendi Abel, I hope to see more books like these from you in the future.
