In her book The Heart of Dignity, author Cristina shares the sentiments of her heart after seeking God through prayer and consecration. Coming from a large family and having a traumatic childhood, Cristina strived for a successful life after her step-brother passed away. A very young Cristina fell pregnant against her will and eventually had two sons whom she raised on her own, until getting married and having to care for an additional three children. After her divorce in 2002, Cristina returned to New Orleans but her home was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. Fortunately, Mike Hastings and Habitat for Humanity secured a new home for Cristina and she continues to study and work hard for the sake of her family.
The Heart of Dignity is a poignant, emotional story and author Cristina is open and honest about her past and current circumstances. Losing family, being traumatized, abused, and suffering the loss of a home would be enough for most people to want to give up on life but Cristina is determined to stay strong and keep her faith. Cristina was faced with raising children in difficult circumstances, often without help or enough money to support, feed, or provide a home for them. It takes great strength and determination to survive in today’s world without additional challenges, so hopefully, her future will be a vast improvement on her past as things can only get better for her. Hard work, personal discipline, and the Christian faith will go a long way toward her brighter future.
