The Haunting on Palm Court: An Isle of Palms Suspense by Stephanie Edwards is a romantic suspense novel so good that you must finish it in one sitting. It's about a woman fleeing her abusive husband and what happens when he tries to catch up with her. It isn't what you expect and the pages will turn, turn, turn as you keep reading to find out how it all unfolds. The characters are realistic and play well off each other, the plot is unique and suspenseful, and the ending is great, but I won't give it away. There are a lot of suspense romance books on the market, but this one is a little different and owns this genre in a way that most don't, thanks to the plot and Edwards' good writing.
What stands out is that the book starts in one direction and you think you know where it's going, but then it takes a surprising turn and leads you into edgy territory that builds the drama even further. The character of Blake (the woman) is vulnerable yet strong and she finds herself in a situation that will resonate with a lot of women (and a few men, of course). Her less-than-stellar fiance, Parker, is nothing to mess around with, and the drama launches into the paranormal just when Blake thinks she's on safer ground. I think the synopsis gives away the punch of the story, but I can understand why it's included: It's a real scene-stealer. The book is a great read that is definitely worth your time and money. If you like the movie The Invisible Man, then The Haunting on Palm Court: An Isle of Palms Suspense by Stephanie Edwards is a novel you must have on your bookshelf.
