Coco's hair had 1000 knots and her mom wanted to know how it got so messy. Her hair had ribs, honey toast, and spaghetti in it, all the things Coco loved the most. Her hair was a disaster and her mom needed to brush out all the goo. Coco did not want to brush her hair and she told her mom there was no need for her to brush. She said she liked the way it looked like a bird's nest. Her mom said her hair was a tangled pile and it was not stylish to have the hair look like a bird's nest. Coco's mom wanted to fix her hair but she jumped out of the chair and hid under the bed. Her mom searched and searched, but she could find no brushes and combs around the place. Coco's knots were becoming worse and her hair looked like a Christmas tree. How does her mom manage to brush Coco's hair? Will Coco allow her mom to brush her hair?
The Hair With 1000 Knots by Monique Piscaer Bailey is an entertaining and whimsical story about a girl not wanting to brush her curls and the author's illustrations add to the whimsy and wacky element of the story. Many children and their parents will be able to relate to Coco's behavior. The story shows the different types of hairstyles that can be tried if hair is kept tangle-free and clean and also gives a relevant message to girls who do not want to comb their hair. It is a good book to use for storytelling sessions at home and in classrooms and will make girls want to keep their curls in good condition.
