The Great Compost Heap by Renaee Smith is an educational and informative book for children that introduces them to the idea of composting and how composting can help them further the idea of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Science was Freddie's favorite subject and his mom always asked him about school when he came back from school. That day Freddie told his mom how his science teacher told them to recycle their garbage for a cleaner environment. Their science teacher told them to make a compost heap to reduce harmful gases being released into the air. Freddie and his parents made a compost heap at home and all their neighbors also wanted to know how to do it. The mayor of the town heard about it and created a special place in town for everyone to drop their compost. The book will guide students on how to create their own compost heap at school and at home using simple things.
The topic of the story is relevant and very interesting, and encourages everyone to work towards creating a healthy environment. The illustrations are colorful and bright and they add life to the story and the characters. It's an excellent story for interactive sessions in classrooms and school libraries and it's also a good bedtime storybook to read out to kids. Both parents and teachers can implement this as an activity at school and at home, and make the entire process exciting for kids. The crossword at the end of the book is also fun to try out.
