In Petrina Binney's The Good in Goodbye, Charlotte likes to mind her own business and wants people to do the same for her, but her mother, Carol, is quite the opposite. Charlotte spends her days mixing cocktails and talking to her sister, Kelly, about their mother and their fibroids. One day the monotony is broken when Charlotte's mother asks her partner, Marisa, who works as a party planner to organize a party to set up her sister and a co-worker, Gary. Charlotte knows that meddling in people's lives is a bad idea, but they go along with it anyway. As time passes, things go sour between Kelly and Gary, and their mom has another wild idea. This time, it's a reverse reception. Their mother always seems to put her nose in places it shouldn't be and Charlotte is beginning to get fed up with it. Carol wants a party, so they will give her one. Will it go as planned?
Petrina Binney's The Good in Goodbye is a short story full of drama, emotions, and revenge with an ironic ending that is sure to surprise. Binney's writing exemplifies what happens when there are miscommunications and drama-seeking people. The characters were brilliantly crafted, relatable, and the plot progressed in a way that slowly revealed dramatic moments without giving away too much too soon. The Good in Goodbye is a short story, but it doesn't go by too quickly. I'm sure everyone knows someone who is messy, nosy, bossy, and just can't take a hint. The Good in Goodbye is a story full of drama with unexpected twists and turns that are sure to keep readers engaged until the very end.
