The Fugitive's Trail is a stunning first entry in The Sean Kruger Series by J.C. Fields, a page-turner that is intelligently plotted and executed with great mastery. A man has been found dead in a Wall Street investment firm and another injured, and the man at whom fingers are pointing is on the run. Special Agent Sean Kruger is specifically tasked by his FBI Director to handle the case and to move to New York and locate the man responsible for the crimes.

When Kruger starts his investigation, he quickly learns that things may not be what they seem to be and that the man on the run might be the victim of a sinister intrigue involving powerful individuals in the firm. As he digs into the story, he draws the attention of some who would have everyone believe the story that is out, and who will stop at nothing to protect what Kruger is still to learn, if only he lives to complete the case.

This is the kind of book that fans of Sidney Sheldon will adore, well-plotted with a protagonist who is sculpted to perfectly reflect the world of his profession. The intrigue is beguiling and the plot perfectly paced to keep readers turning the pages. The red herrings are surprisingly breathtaking. J.C. Fields is a great writer and I enjoyed the fluidity in the prose, the intelligent dialogues, and the wonderful descriptions. The Fugitive's Trail is an absorbing tale that is exciting, a real page-turner.

This case has been a suspicious one right from the start, but Sean Kruger is still determined to figure out just what happened in that office building and why some very rich and very powerful men seem to be determined to lie about it. When he finally meets JR, he starts to put the pieces of the puzzle together, but it’s going to take a whole lot more than just the story of a fugitive to break this case wide open. Of course, if the fugitive is actually more powerful than anyone realized … that just might be a different story and JR is definitely more powerful in The Fugitive’s Trail (The Sean Kruger Series Volume 1). Though it’s not just JR who has something to hide and a bunch of secrets to blow wide open. The rest of the team at P&G Global do too, and some secrets are bigger than others.

This is a story full of intrigue and many questions around every corner. You never know what’s going to happen next or who is going to be tied up with whom. There’s action everywhere and no one seems to be who they claim to be. But Sean and JR are characters that you want to learn the most about throughout this story, though there are plenty of other great characters to entertain readers. If you like a book that has a lot to keep it moving, then you’re going to like The Fugitive’s Trail by J.C. Fields. Not only that, but you’re will be fully immersed in everything that’s happening right from the start. I am interested in reading the next book as well so I’m glad that this is only the start of a new series.

J.C. Fields has created a fantastic thriller in The Fugitive's Trail (The Sean Kruger Series Volume 1). Wall Street, government, the FBI, the CIA and corruption go hand-in-hand in this intriguing tale. JR Diminski - the man who escapes two armed guards within the first lines of the story - not only has exceptional computer skills but also beyond normal shooting and fighting skills. He's forced to flee and erase everything about his life if he has any hope of surviving and having a normal life. The FBI is looking for him. The thugs hired by the higher ups within a major company are looking for him. And, they just might find him since there is one place that his real identity still exists. He eventually has to decide whether or not to trust FBI agent Sean Kruger because that may be his only hope.

The Fugitive's Trail is hands-down a fascinating thriller, overall. It starts off a bit rough in the first chapter with an overly descriptive scene - not graphic, just too detailed. But, it doesn't take long for J.C. Fields to draw the reader in once he brings Kruger onto the scene. There are some jumps forward in time, but J.C. Fields moves the storyline gracefully through these. He also adds depth to Kruger, as well as Diminski, by writing in romantic relationships for both of them. There are challenges galore for almost every character, which will keep readers wondering and turning pages. There is very little violence actually written into The Fugitive's Trail, but J.C. Fields lets readers know that there is always the threat of it. The Fugitive's Trail is a page-turner, a book readers won't be able to put down.
