Chloe, Sarah, and Charlotte are three best friends who have a lot in common when it comes to misfortune. Chloe’s father died a few months earlier and she’s still having trouble coping with the loss. Sarah and her mother had to move from their house and relocate to a poor council house because her father gambled away all their money so they lost their home. She’s also being bullied at school and is forced to write papers and do homework for these bullies otherwise she’ll get beaten up. Charlotte’s parents are splitting up and her father is taking her little sister with him. She then finds out her father isn’t her real dad and she feels that he doesn’t love her because of this. It seems like none of the girls can catch a break in their lives so, after a shared dream of running away, the girls decide to act on this plan and run off during their school camping trip. Will the girls face reality and come back, or will they remain in the forest and make a life for themselves in the wilderness?
I thought The Friendship Triangle by Joey Paul was an excellent read. The issues that the girls are facing are very much a reality for so many kids these days. It’s a book that I see many kids understanding and relating to. Each of the characters is well thought out and easy to relate to as well. It’s quick-paced and very easy to read and get into because it gets straight to the point of the story. I found this novel was well written and an interesting read that I feel many will enjoy. I think that Joey Paul has done a wonderful job with The Friendship Triangle and I cannot wait to read more works by this author.
